Diversity Training

The fundamental challenge of a diverse workforce is learning how to produce results. Effective communication skills are crucial for success when there are differences in race, gender, function, style or organizational level.

This program is designed to create an awareness of diversity and its implications, as well as to provide participants with the communication skills required to be effective in a diverse workforce.

This course is non-confrontational in nature, recognizing that while we all have prejudices based on our backgrounds, we can learn and choose more effective behaviors. We begin by focusing on what is universal to all human beings. Our approach creates a unique learning environment where participants can explore diversity--everything that makes us different from each other.

Participants learn how their own background influences their perceptions about what is "right" and "wrong," and how these beliefs affect action and communication with diverse others. Participants also learn how to give feedback, ask questions, and deal with conflict.

Rather than just offering information on specific cultural areas, tools for working with all diverse others are provided through practice cases, experiential exercises, and full participation.

Diversity can become a competitive advantage that can be used to generate innovation and more creative business solutions.

Participants will:

  • Recognize that working with differences is a critical skill for effectiveness today
  • Develop a broad working definition of diversity
  • Become more aware of assumptions and responses to differences
  • Learn how to suspend judgment
  • Learn a process for managing responses to different perspectives and creating win/win partnerships
  • Understand and appreciate different communication styles and motivations
